Chicago State University Locks Twitter Account Amid Controversy Over Tinubu’s Academic Records

The controversy surrounding the academic credentials of Bola Tinubu, the Nigeria President and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 2023 election, has taken a new turn as the Chicago State University (CSU) has locked its official X account, formerly Twitter after facing backlash from Nigerians.

Tinubu claims to have graduated from CSU in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, and Management.

However, his certificate has been questioned by many, especially his main rival in the presidential race, Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku has filed a lawsuit in a US court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago, seeking an order to compel CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records. Tinubu, through his lawyers, has opposed the request and argued that his records are confidential and protected by law.

CSU has stated that it will only release Tinubu’s records if a US court grants the order.

The university’s decision to lock its social media accounts has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who have accused CSU of trying to cover up its involvement in a potential forgery.

Some Nigerians have also called for a boycott of CSU, while others have threatened to protest outside the university’s campus in Chicago.

However, many Nigerians have accused the US University of colluding with Tinubu to hide his academic records. They have taken to social media platforms such as X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and Facebook to demand transparency and accountability from CSU.

Some of the reactions are:

@InibeheEffiong wrote, “If Nigerians decide to call you out, you’re certainly in trouble. Chicago State University has locked their X account.”

@firstladyship wrote “Chicago State University @ChicagoState has locked their Twitter account. They removed the 1979 yearbook from their archive. I wonder what they are hiding? Nigerians are camping on their page.”

@Shehu_Mahdi wrote, “CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY AS AN ACCOMPLICE TO FRAUD: Bola said he graduated from CSU in 1979. Suddenly, the 1979 yearbook has disappeared from the CSU website. This means CSU is concealing a fraud so that they can partake in eating “THE FORBIDEN FRUIT.” Well, Fraud is Time-bound.”

@_Weyimi wrote, “A glimpse of Chicago State University LinkedIn burning up @ChicagoState. We await their response.”

@MalchyOdo1 wrote, “The Chicago State University is trying to hide something. I would understand if a Nigerian University is acting this funny but not an American University. What’s in it for them?”

@Fimiletoks wrote, “They have moved to LinkedIn forcing Chicago State University to lock its comment section. This is the online wing of the 1pob terror1sts organization. The Agulu messiah can’t claim that he is unaware of this harassment and cyberbullying.”

@JaypeeGeneral wrote, “Nigerians don follow Chicago State University reach Facebook🤣 I hope they will use padlock 🔐 to lock Facebook the way they have locked their X account😭 Nigerians are not joking. We must get to the root for Bola Tinubu’s certificate forgery. #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary.

The row over Tinubu’s academic records has cast a shadow over his presidential position, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to clear his name.

In the meantime, the controversy has raised questions about the integrity of CSU and the quality of its education.
