JAMB to Withdraw UTME Result of Student Who Faked Score to Get N3m Scholarship

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced its intention to withdraw the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who allegedly paraded a fake score to obtain a N3 million scholarship from a prominent businessman.

According to a statement released by the board’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday July 2, Miss Ejikeme scored 249 in the examination, not 362 as she claimed. The board said it would prosecute Miss Ejikeme for tampering with its result.

The statement said that Miss Ejikeme was offered a N3 million scholarship by the founder of Innoson motors, Innocent Chukwuma, who was impressed by her purported score of 362 in the 2023 UTME. She was also set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government for her academic excellence.

However, the board said that her fraud was exposed when one of the state officials contacted JAMB to verify her claim and discovered that she had used some software packages to manipulate her result and deceive the public.

The statement read in part:

“The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to several publications in both print and online media celebrating certain candidates for being high scorers in the 2023 UTME.

“The Board is constrained to set the records straight and wishes to state unequivocally that many of the results which many of these candidates are parading are fake.

“In many instances, some of these candidates had actually obtained far lower scores than they are claiming and had used some funny software packages to manipulate their results to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

“The most pathetic of them all is the case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was awarded a N3m scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma.

“She was even set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government when one of its top officials put a call through to JAMB to confirm her claim only for the Board to reveal that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 and not 362 she claimed.

“She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public to fraudulently obtain scholarship and other recognition.”

The board warned other candidates who might have engaged in similar acts to desist from doing so or face the consequences. It also advised members of the public to always verify any UTME result from its official website or mobile app before celebrating or rewarding any candidate.

The statement added that JAMB is working with the relevant authorities to bring Miss Ejikeme to justice.

This case is a reminder of the importance of verifying the authenticity of UTME results before making any decisions based on them. JAMB has made it clear that it will not tolerate any attempts to manipulate its results, and those who are caught will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

If you are considering applying for a scholarship or other recognition based on your UTME score, be sure to contact JAMB to verify your results before proceeding. You can do this by calling the JAMB helpline or visiting the JAMB website.

By taking these steps, you can help to ensure that you are not the victim of fraud and that you are only receiving scholarships and other recognition based on your true academic merit.
