Court Imposes Unusual Restriction on Husband in Ekiti: No Contact for Two Weeks

In a surprising legal development in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, a Chief Magistrate court has issued a unique order against 43-year-old Chibike Nwakedi. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon, ruled that Nwakedi must refrain from any communication with his wife, Blessing, for a two-week period until their next court appearance.

The directive specifies that Nwakedi is prohibited from engaging in face-to-face conversations, phone calls, or any direct communication with Blessing. Instead, communication must be facilitated through a third party, namely her lawyer.

The charges against Nwakedi stem from an incident on March 3 in Ado-Ekiti, where he allegedly assaulted Blessing by forcefully hitting her right leg against a wooden bed, resulting in dislocation. The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, asserted that Nwakedi’s actions were likely to cause a breach of peace, leading to charges under Sections 186, 181(D) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

During the arraignment, Nwakedi’s counsel, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, sought bail for his client, assuring the court that Nwakedi would not evade bail and would provide a credible surety.

Chief Magistrate Babalogbon granted bail to Nwakedi in the amount of N50,000, with two sureties required to match the sum. The case has been adjourned until March 28 for further proceedings. This legal saga unfolds against the backdrop of an unusual restriction, raising questions about the dynamics at play in this domestic dispute.
