VIDEOS: EKSU lecturers protest against Gov Fayemi

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, chapter, on Monday, has protested against the state governor, Kayode Fayemi over the alleged irregularities in the payment of their salaries.

The academic workers, who demonstrated on Monday within the university campus in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, accused the state governor for making them suffer.

Chanting solidarity songs in Yoruba to accuse the state governor ““Fayemi ni wa l’ara Baba, ni l’ara ooo” meaning Fayemi is making us suffer, God should make him suffer…”

The university academic workers said for more than 15 months, they had been subjected to untold hardship in the institution despite their services.

The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the institution said Governor Fayemi is consistently deceptive and sincerely committed to error.

The lecturers stated that the commercial motion was essential to protest alleged neglect of the college and its employees by the state authorities and the establishment’s administration.

The ASUU Chairman, EKSU chapter, Dr. Kayode Arogundade, who acknowledged that when he led different government members to deal with reporters on the campus, stated the lecturers are wallowing in abject poverty because of alleged neglect of the establishment.

Arogundade stated that now fewer than 10 employees of EKSU had died as a result of lack of ability to pay medical payments from treatable illnesses within the final three years.

The ASUU Chairman acknowledged that EKSU that’s State owned, couldn’t boast of any singular infrastructural facility put in place by the present State Authorities, since its inception in 2018.

“As at as we speak, Ekiti State Authorities is just subventing EKSU by 50% of its month-to-month wage payments, without paying any appreciable consideration to capital grants and infrastructural developments.

“This has led EKSU Administration to ingloriously bask in monetary infractions, equivalent to: Subversion of Tax Deductions to paying salaries

Diversion of Pension deductions to paying salaries, fund diversion from varied models of the College (Well being Centre, ICT, Schools and Directorates). By this, all these Models are left in absolute neglect and disarray.

“Regardless of varied appeals made to eminent personalities within the State to assist name the eye of Authorities to the survival of the College, it seems the present Governor of the State has defiantly made up his thoughts to punish EKSU to its grave.”

Arogundade accused Governor Kayode Fayemi of reneging on his promise to offset 5 months arrears of subvention being owed the College, throughout the first six months of assumption of workplace, saying, “ordinarily, it shouldn’t take the “good and performing Governor” 3 years to defray the 5 months arrears of subventions being owed the College.

“It is very important state herein that as at as we speak, our employees are being owed the followings: 3 months arrears of salaries for the months of July, August and September, 2018;  6 years arrears of Earned Tutorial Allowances, 26 months unremitted pension deductions and 14 months arrears of half salaries.”

He stated that the Union, within the spirit of collective bargaining, had met with essential stakeholders within the College and Ekiti State greater than Seventeen occasions for the reason that inauguration of the present Administration.

“Regardless of all efforts by our Union to embrace the spirit of collective bargaining, neither the Governor, College Council nor EKSU Administration deemed it match to see to how our plights might be bettered and ameliorated. Quite, it has been unkept guarantees, constantly and unendingly operating for 3 years, as if the training of our residents is of no precedence to them.
