Police Arrest 10 Suspects Over FUOYE Nursing Student Found Murdered After Going Missing

A shocking and heartbreaking incident occurred at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), where a 200-level nursing student, Atanda Modupe Deborah, was found murdered in a shallow grave behind her lecture hall. Deborah had gone missing on September 5, 2023, after she left to study at night on the campus.

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the brutal killing of the young and promising student. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, revealed this information through the command’s official X handle (formerly Twitter).

According to Sunday, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause and motive of Deborah’s death. He assured the public that the police would not rest until they bring the perpetrators to justice.

He also appealed for calm and urged anyone with useful information to contact the Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, Oye-Ekiti, or the State CIID, or call 09064050086/08053499199.

He said that Deborah’s body had been taken to the morgue for autopsy, and that the 10 suspects were undergoing interrogation.

The management of FUOYE had earlier announced the disappearance of Deborah and expressed their concern for her safety. The Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, later broke the sad news of her death in a statement.

He said that the management was collaborating with national security agencies to unravel the mystery behind Deborah’s murder and bring the culprits to book. He also condoled with Deborah’s family and the university community over the loss.

Deborah’s death has sparked outrage and grief among her fellow students and Nigerians on social media. Many have called for justice for Deborah and an end to insecurity on campuses.
