A vanguard of Armed thugs has attacked the venue of Saturday’s Congress of a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, leaving not less than 50 People injured.
The congress is being held at the BTO hall in Akure, the state capital where the Isaac Kekemeke led a faction of the party had converged to hold the state Congress with delegates across the 18 local governments in the state.
The thugs believed to be loyal to the NURTW state chairman, Jacob Adebo popularly known as Idajo arrived the venue in not less than eight Buses, locked the doors and started attacking the Party member with guns, cutlasses and other ammunition.
People including journalists had to scamper for safety despite the presence of the Nigeria security and civil defence corps.
Notable personalities were injured in the fracas, people like Sunkanmi Elujoba of Adaba FM, Damisi Ojo of The Nation, Bamigbola Gbolagunte of The Sun, Olumide Abudu of Radio Nigeria Positive FM. The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ), who is also correspondent of Thisday newspaper, James Sowole was beaten mercilessly by the thugs.
Bola Ilori, the commissioner for Regional Integration in Osun State was not spared as he was also attacked and Injured.
The thugs were heard saying that they were acting on the order of the ‘authority from above’ while carrying out the inglorious assignment.
Efforts to speak with Mr. Adebo, their alleged sponsor proved abortive as he neither picked calls nor respond to messages.
The other faction of the party led by Mr. Adetimehin, the acting chairman of the party, however, held their congress peacefully and had the acting chairman contest unopposed.
