NRC Suspends Staff Over Ticket Racketeering on Lagos-Ibadan Train Service

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended some of its staff who were caught on camera negotiating with passengers on-board Lagos–Ibadan Train Service to pay without obtaining an official boarding ticket.

The video, which went viral on various social media platforms, exposed the fraudulent activities of the staff who were taking advantage of the high demand for the train service.

The NRC condemned the misconduct of the staff in a statement signed by the deputy director of public relations, Yakub Mahmood.

The statement said that the staff had violated the laid down rules and betrayed the confidence reposed on them by the corporation.

The statement also said that the staff had been placed on immediate suspension pending the outcome of an in-depth investigation by a management committee.

The NRC further stated that such acts are considered a dent on the image of the corporation and won’t be tolerated. It said that disciplinary proceedings in line with the extant rules and public service rules will be applied to all those found guilty or connected to the racketeering.

The NRC assured its esteemed passengers and the general public that it is committed to providing efficient and modern train services in line with the federal government’s efforts at revitalising and modernising the railway sector.

It also urged all intending passengers to insist and demand for boarding tickets after making appropriate payments at the designated stations or book online.
