NDLEA Nabs 10 Drug Dealers, Seizes Cannabis, Codeine and Pentazocine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 10 drug dealers who were operating in different parts of Kano State in July.

The agency also seized various types of illicit drugs from the suspects, including cannabis, codeine and pentazocine.

According to a statement issued by the NDLEA Public Relations Officer in Kano, Mr Sadiq Maigatari, the suspects were identified as Abubakar Yunusa 33, James Temitope 42, Sani Muhammad 23, Aminu Sani 23 and Emeka Williams 31. The others are Inusa Alhassan, 31, Muhammad Abubakar 35, Hussaini Hamza 45, Sani Dahiru 30 and Muhammad Ibrahim 30.

Maigatari said that some of the suspects were arrested with weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa while others were arrested with 2,000 ampules of pentazocine injection as well as 48 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 4.8 kg.

He said that the operations that led to the interception of the illicit drugs and arrest of the suspected dealers had significantly curbed the distribution of the substances in the state and removed substantial quantities from circulation.

He said that the potential harm that this quantity of illicit substances could have caused was inestimable. He added that the agency was determined to disrupt drug markets and protect the community from the dangers of drug abuse.

He appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to NDLEA toward ensuring a drug-free Kano for future generations. He also urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards and educate them on the negative effects of drug consumption.
