Minimum Wage: NLC, FG reach agreement on percentage increase for workers

  • NLC agreed FG with 23.2 percent for workers on level 7
  • Labour agreed FG with 20 percent for workers on level 8
  • NLC agreed FG with 19 percent, 16 percent and 14 percent for workers on Levels 9, 10-14 and 15-17 respectively.

The agreement has finally reached between the Organised Labour and the Federal government on Thursday on percentage increase of the consequential adjustment in workers’ salaries as a result of the new minimum wage of N30, 000.

After three days of horse trading and intense negotiation, both teams finally shifted ground from their earlier positions and agreed on certain percentages.

The federal government and organised labour, at the end of the meeting, agreed to percent increase of 23.2 percent for workers on level seven and 20 percent for workers on level eight, while it agreed on 19 percent increase for workers on level nine.

Also, the government and Organised Labour agreed on 16 percent salary increase for workers on level 10- 14 and 14 percent increase for workers on level 15-17.

Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos state chapter, Funmi Sessi, said workers were anxious to receive the new minimum wage without any further delay.

Sessi, who stated this on Thursday, said that payment of the new minimum wage would be a win-win situation not only for workers but also for the government.
