Mixed reactions trail resumption of 100% payment on bus fares in Lagos after election

Nigerians reacted to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) that announced the slash in prices had come to an end.

LAMATA disclosed on Tuesday, that the state would go back to 100% payment of government-owned buses.

Recall that the Lagos State Governor,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered a slash in prices of government-owned buses popularly known as BRT to 50% before the presidential and governorship elections.

The governor’s move was to cushion the hardship caused by the fuel scarcity and cash crush faced by Nigerians.

However, in a recent development, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Tuesday, disclosed that the slash in prices had come to an end.

LAMATA in a public notice posted on their Twitter account said fares of state-owned buses will return to a 100 percent rate on April 1.

Meanwhile, several mixed reactions from netizens have since trailed the notice from LAMATA.

Some residents of Lagos State have taken to the micro-blogging platform Twitter to react to the resumption of 100% payment on government bus fares in the state.

Below are some of the reactions:

@_igbalodeEngr “Election yaf finished, its understandable.”

@DattiObifan “Awwww, ko si Yoruba ronu again? Honeymoon ti tan abii? Apc supporters should be exempted mbok. 🤣🤣🤣.”

@Dr_dre50 “100% is to much for us.

@MetroLagos should look into it. Entry 500 bus in the morning 500 in afternoon is not child’s play.”

@Cebebe1 “I love this. You can increase it to 200%. We will pay”

@chukwukwame “Is the 100% full return also inclusive of returning A/C back into the buses? Because there’s no need paying full rates for a BRT bus with 49 sitting, 99 standing and no A/C”

@ojo_cynthia “So government also do APRIL FOOL, we all understand it’s a joke…..April 1st.”

@cabucci1 “Only Igbos will pay for the increased bus fare. Thanks to Dayo and Yoruba Ronu 😫”

@Hemmigas “Thanks for your support in this trying time. I wish to inform you that your bus with no 240217 charged 100% from Mile2 to CMS today 29/03/2023 at 06:52am against the announced 1st April. Kindly ensure that we are refunded as soon as possible.

“Thank you.”

@OmagbemiRita, “Una do this one o🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣promo over, una go tire, this tribal war you are encouraging, body go pain una.”
