Fayemi Presents N109.6bn 2021 budget to Ekiti Assembly

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has presented the 2021 Budget proposal of One hundred and nine billion, six hundred and six million, three hundred and seventy six thousand, three hundred and twenty two naira (109,666,376,722) to the State House of Assembly.

The budget proposal christened Budget of Recovery and Economic Restoration had an increment of twenty percent compared to that of 2020.

Statistics in the budget proposal shows a recurrent expenditure set at 57,997,979,982 and Capital Expenditure at 51,668,385,739.

Addressing the House, Governor Fayemi explained that the budget proposal was a product of consultation and meetings with members of the public through town hall meetings

According to him the budget was critically prepared in consideration for the current economic realities occasioned by the corona virus pandemic with the aim of rebuilding the economic drive of the state.

Dr. Fayemi affirmed that 2021 appropriation bill was designed to lift people of the state out of poverty through massive empowerment and social security schemes.

He said the budget would be funded through federal allocation, value added tax, Internally Generated Revenue as well as support from development partners.

Speaking on the implementation of 2020 budget, Governor Fayemi explained that though the pandemic created a big challenge, his government was able to deliver on the budget through prompt payment of salaries, free education, free health care for the vulnerable members, inauguration of many noble projects among others.

The Governor, however, announced his determination to commence the payment of the consequential adjustment for the thirty thousand new minimum wage for workers from grade level eight and above noting that the necessary requirements have been captured in the budget.

He also promised to build health centers across the one hundred and seventy four wards across the state so as to enhance health care system.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon.Funminiyi Afuye said the budget proposal would be thoroughly scrutinized.

Similarly, the Ekiti State Medium Term Frame Work for 2021 to 2023 which was earlier presented before the House by Governor Kayode Fayemi was adopted as a working document of the assembly through a motion moved by the leader of government business, Hon. Gboyega Aribisagan and seconded by the Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu.

Meanwhile the House had earlier observed a minute silence in honour of the former deputy speaker of the house Hon. Saliu Adeoti who died ten years ago.
