Ekiti residents raise alarm over high price of goods; call Fayemi, monarchs for aid

Ekiti State residents have raised the alarm over the high cost of living in Ekiti compared to other neighbouring States, Newsflash247 reports.

People are crying and wailing calling for the attention of the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, for immediate intervention in ever increasing high cost of living in Ekiti.

The citizens also begged the monarchs of their district for immediate intervention.

It is a known fact that comparing the cost of transportation, cost of average foodstuffs and generally cost of living, Ekiti ranks highest within the South West if not over the entire 36 States of the federation.

Newsflash247 gathered that the foodstuffs in Ekiti are most costlier than neighbouring states.

These were all revealed in the latest market survey carried out by Newsflash247 Research.

According to the latest report, the price of items such as Rice, beans, pepper, palm oil, onions, tomatoes, garri, and potatoes significantly increased.

For Instance, a foreign bag of rice in Ekiti State is N35,000 compared to other neighbouring states like Kwara and Osun States cost N25,000.

A big bag of pepper is currently selling for an average of N15,000, which indicates an increase of 114.3% when compared to the other states.

Also transportation within the state is also high; Ado to Ikere about 2 miles (10 minute’s journey) cost N200.

Meanwhile, traders have blamed the price jump on the high cost of transportation and scarcity of some essential food items.
