Ekiti 2022: Group threatens to boycott the election if the party fails to zone gubernatorial

Ahead of the governorship election in Ekiti State, the South Senatorial District Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have threatened to mobilise their people to boycott the guber primary or any election if it fails to zone the 2022 governorship to the zone.

The group stated this in a statement read to journalists in Ikere Ekiti, headquarters of the South District on Thursday by a former Acting Governor, Hon Tunji Odeyemi.

Others who also signed the statement are Dr Kunle Afolayan and Chief Titilayo Oguntuase.

The group directed the people of the South Senatorial District to boycott any election contrary to the resolution to present a person from the zone as a governorship candidate.

The group also ordered delegates from the Southern District to remain firm and refrain from honouring anybody that is not from the senatorial district with their votes.

The group said the failure of the PDP to pick its governorship candidate from the south senatorial district, the zone should boycott any election.

The PDP leaders “ordered delegates from the district “to remain firm and refrain from honouring anybody that is not from the district with their votes”.

The group stated, “The leaders met and resolved, among others, that people and delegates from the zone should not honour anybody outside the senatorial district with their votes.

“Failure of the PDP to pick its governorship candidate from the south senatorial district, our people should boycott any election.

“The Southern Senatorial District has the highest number of automatic delegates, the district has the highest number of local governments, the district has over 350,000 voters.

“We have directed members to boycott any election contrary to the resolution of the stakeholders and leaders of the district,” they stated.
