Ekiti 2022: Fayose’s ally, Kayode Oso drops ex-governor, declares support for Segun Oni

Ahead of the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State, Kayode Oso, an ally of former governor Ayodele Fayose, has withdrawn his support from his principal’s candidate, Bisi Kolawole.

Oso, two terms former Commissioner for Works and Transportation during Fayose’s administration has declared support for the former Ekiti State governor, Engr Segun Oni.

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disclosed this on Sunday when donating campaign office to Engr Segun Oni Campaign Organisation in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that the camp of the former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, is in disarray since the former governor had picked Bisi Kolawole as his preferred candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the State.

Fayose singlehandedly endorsed the current State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Bisi Kolawole as his candidate for the 2022 governorship election on February 20, 2021.

The former governor advised other aspirants to support him.

In his words, Fayose said “I painstakingly decide to support Bisi Kolawole because he is eminently qualified, a rallying point and a bridge builder. But it is still an open race for all aspirants.

“In due course, the party will conduct primary for them all.

“However, for me today, it is #BisiKolawole for Governor.

“To my Political ‘Sons’ (Aspirants) and followers of the Osoko Political Assembly, it could have been ‘you’ but the will of God be done. Your time too will surely come.

“As a leader, I reserve the right to a choice and decision to which I have humbly made”.

The aspirants contesting for governorship election under Osoko Political Assembly(OPA) includes; National Treasurer of the party, Hon Wale Aribisala and Professor Olusola Eleka, the former deputy governor of the state and the governorship candidate in 2018,

However, the duos were not happy about the decision of their principal. They said they will continue with their ambition.

Other Osoko group aspirants like former House of Representatives member, Hon Segun Adekola, Ex-local government chairman, Deji Ogunsakin and Hon Ayodele Oladimeji said they have no option than to support the decision of the former governor.

But Kayode Oso has dropped his ambition and he’s drumming support for Segun Oni.

Addressing his political group (Kayode Oso Network) and other well wishers at the ground breaking event where he donated a situation office for the Campaingn of Engr Segun Oni in Ado Ekiti.

He described Segun Oni as an embodiment of humility, honesty and transparency saying Ekiti PDP needs such character to flag the party’s ticket come 2022 general elections, if the PDP were to succeed in 2022 election in the State.

He further preached peace among the party delegates and implored them to vote Engr. Oni at the forthcoming primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“I welcome everybody to this august occasion; I appreciate you for honoring my invitation to this event with such a short notice.

“Is time for the PDP to takeover Governance in Ekiti State and in Nigeria as a whole, but we must be very careful in giving party ticket to those with questionable characters.

“Today, I declare my support for Engr. Segun Oni to Govern Ekiti State once more and  I enjoin all party leaders, stakeholders and members of the party to work in this direction”, he said.

Aspirants that have been campaigning for the state’s governorship election aside Osoko Political Assembly (OPA) are Engineer Segun Oni, Hon. Kayode Adaramodu, Otunba Yinka Akerele and Tosin Ajibare.
