Buhari spent over N2.05 trillion on lifting Nigerians out of poverty – Sadiya Farouq

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Farouq, has revealed that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration spent over $5bn (N2.055 trillion) since 2016 on lifting Nigerians out of poverty.

The minister disclosed this on Saturday in Yola, Adamawa State capital, during the presentation of letters of engagement and electronic tablets to 248 monitors of the NSIP programme.

The Minister who was represented by the National Coordinator of NSIP, Dr Umar Bindir, described $1bn invested into NSIP sector in every year reduces Nigerians people out of poverty.

The Minister noted that the amount is in partial fulfilment of the promise made by the president to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

She added that the various schemes under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) are targeted at reducing poverty and inequality among Nigerians.

Farouq also affirmed that there is absolute truth in the declaration by President Buhari during his democracy day speech that his government has pulled 7.5million people out of poverty.

“I am happy to report to you that every year since 2016, when NSIP was flagged off, Mr President has approved that $1bn be invested into that sector every year (which aggregated is over $5bn),” she said.
