BREAKING: Bandits kidnap College Provost, INEC official’s son and Secondary school teacher in Zamfara

Habibu Mainasara, the provost of the College of Arts and Animal Science in Zamfara State and two others have been abducted by unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits.

Mainasara was kidnapped at his official residence in Bakura in the early hours of Sunday.

It was gathered that a teacher identifies as Kabiru, of Government Science Secondary School Bakura and the son of an INEC official were also kidnapped in Bakura, Zamfara state.

A member of the provost’s family, Hamza Bakura, said: “They came around 2 a.m. He (Mr Bukullu) is the current Provost of the college but has been living in Government Science Secondary School Bakura staff quarters because he was a Biology teacher here. The bandits did not fire a shot while in the college premises.”

He said after they abducted the provost, the bandits went for the other teacher who also resides in the school.

“The other boy was kidnapped outside the school. I’ve spoken with the father of the boy, who is an INEC official in Sokoto State but from Bakura.”

Mujittaba Bakura, another local, said the families have been contacted by the kidnappers.

He said the bandits did not take away any family member of the provost.

The police spokesperson in the state, Muhammad Shehu, did not respond to calls and an SMS sent to him for comments for this report.

In the similar incident, bandits have abducted the Emir of Kajuru, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu Kajuru and 13 of his family members in his palace in the early hours of Sunday.

It was gathered that the 85-year-old monarch was abducted alongside Salama Kajuru, Abubakar Kajuru and his grandchildren.

Speaking in an interview, Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Kajuru, editor of Taskira Hausa Newspaper said the gunmen raided the palace in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“They abducted the Emir and the Salama of Kajuru, Alh Abubakar Kajuru and his grandchildren. All in all 13 family members were abducted with the Emir,” he declared.

 He said further, “we are afraid the Emir might not survive it as he’s too old to undergo the rigorous of trekking for hours.”

A source who pleaded for anonymity remarked, that on Friday, the Emir summoned a security meeting over a threat to kidnap him.
