Boko Haram Terrorists Raid Customs Office, Kill Officer In Yobe

A Nigeria Customs Service office in Geidam town, Geidam LGA, Yobe State, was attacked by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday night, leaving one officer dead and several properties destroyed.

The terrorists arrived in a Volkswagen Golf and a Land Rover around 10:00 pm and opened fire at the Customs office along Maine Soroa Road. The officers, who had retired home, ran for their lives; some managed to get out through the gate, while others jumped over the fence.

However, one officer, Usman Gombe, was fatally shot as he tried to escape. A security source confirmed his death to Daily Trust.

The source also said the terrorists set ablaze the Customs patrol van, a generator, and part of the office building before fleeing.

This is not the first time Boko Haram terrorists have targeted Customs officers. Last month, they kidnapped and killed an officer, Babalola, and his junior colleague.

Meanwhile, residents of Geidam town lamented the increasing presence of Boko Haram terrorists on the outskirts of the town. They said the terrorists extorted money from farmers and herdsmen near the town, while the security forces did nothing to stop them.

“Instead of protecting us from these terrorists, the security forces have moved over 17 checkpoints into the town where they also harass and tax us for bringing goods through the same route. We are suffering in this town,” one of the residents said.
