Afuye Poisoned: Ekiti Teaching hospital clears air on speaker’s autopsy

The Management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado Ekiti, has reacted to the Autopsy result of the late Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Funminiyi Afuye died last week.

Rt. Hon Afuye died Wednesday evening, October 19, 2023, at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest.

There were rumours making rounds on Sunday morning on social media that the late speaker was poisoned.

 “Autopsy Examination has confirmed by the pathologist that the late Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye was “POISONED”.

“The Autopsy is otherwise known as a post-mortem examination to discover the cause of death or the extent of disease on a dead body”.

“If this happens to be the Truth, then the perpetrator of this evil act should in any way (legal or illegal) face the penalty with immediate effect”, which was rumoured circulated on social media.

Reacting, the Management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, has debunked the rumours that the late Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye was found to be “poisoning”.

The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Kayode Olabanji said the news was fake and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

Professor Oyebanji said the preliminary results of the late speaker did not indicate he was poisoned nor was any foul play suspected.

He said the final reports which require laboratory investigations will take some days and it’s not likely to have a significant change in the earlier findings.

According to him, there are procedures, rules and regulations guiding autopsy results. Saying whenever the result is ready, it will be given to his next of kin, and not the public.

“While responding to the fake news, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Kayode Olabanji urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

“The CMD noted that, even though an autopsy was done on the late Speaker, the preliminary results did not indicate he was poisoned neither was any foul play suspected.

“He explained that the final reports which require laboratory investigations will take some days and it’s not likely to have a significant change in the earlier findings.

“According to him, there are procedures, rules and regulations guiding autopsy results. Saying whenever the result is ready, it will be given to his next of kin, and not the public.

“He added that Forensic Pathologists will never issue a social media report on the dead as it’s against Medical ethics.

“Prof Olabanji advised the public to ignore the rumours, stressing that it is the handiwork of mischief makers.
