2023: Osoba opens up on APC’s agreement for presidency, says Tinubu can contest

He, however, made it clear that though “there is so much noise from the East”, nobody has contacted anyone in the ruling party to show interest in running in 2023.

The former governor of Ogun state and one of the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Olusegun Osoba, has opened up that there is a gentleman’s agreement in the APC that the next presidential candidate for the party will come from the South.

He also revealed that the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, has the right to contest for the Presidency in 2023.

Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the former National Chairman of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, before coalescing to form the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Buba Galadima, had said there was a zoning arrangement agreed upon by leaders of the ruling party.

Galadima revealed that two former governors, a serving governor and a Northern leader have signed the APC power rotation agreement of the presidency.

He further explained that there is no zoning in APC constitution but there was a gentleman’s agreement between some gladiators from the South-west and the North.

He said “as far as the constitution of APC is concerned, there is no word zoning in it. There is no zoning in APC constitution but I heard from a reliable source that there was a gentleman’s agreement between some gladiators from the South-west, and the North that if the South-west support them for Buhari to win the election in 2015 that the North will also support the candidate of the South-west in 2023”.

But when the former Ogun governor, Osoba, while appearing on Arise TV on Tuesday morning, saying, there is a gentleman’s agreement in the APC that the next presidential candidate for the party will come from the South.

He said;

“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as an individual has the right to put himself forward, but we have not zeroed in on an individual.

“Zeroing in on any individual will destroy our efforts now. But Tinubu has a right to pursue his own agenda,” he said.

Osoba also claimed there is a gentleman’s agreement in the All Progressives Congress (APC), that the next presidential candidate for the party will come from the South.

He, however, made it clear that though “there is so much noise from the East”, nobody has contacted anyone in the ruling party to show interest in running in 2023.

“As an elder in the party, nobody from the South-East has contacted or consulted me to lobby, to even say they are interested.”
