Youth Protests, Demands Justice For Late Singer Mohbad, Accuses Naira Marley And Sam Larry Of Involvement

The death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, a rising star in the Nigerian music industry, has sparked outrage and protests across the country.

Mohbad, who was a former signee of Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley, died on Sept. 12 in Lagos at the age of 27.

The cause of his death has been shrouded in mystery and controversy, with some accusing Naira Marley and his manager, Sam Larry, of having a hand in it.

On Tuesday, hundreds of youths clad in black tee-shirts took to the streets of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, to demand justice for Mohbad.

They carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Justice for Mohbad”, “Government must arrest Naira Marley and Sam Larry” and others. They started their rally at the Panseke area and marched through the city, chanting songs and slogans.

Some of the protesters who spoke to newsmen said they were in pain and wanted the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and bring the culprits to book. They said Mohbad had a promising future and was a talented singer who inspired many young people.

A colleague of Mohbad, Boye Best, urged the government to be thorough and transparent in the investigation and ensure that justice is served. He said Mohbad was a good friend and a hardworking artist who did not deserve to die in such a manner.

The Abeokuta protest was not the only one that took place on Tuesday. It was gathered that youths also hit the streets at Effurun Road in Warri, Delta State, to demand justice for Mohbad. They also accused Naira Marley and Sam Larry of being responsible for his death.

On Monday, some youths also protested in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where Mohbad was buried. They also called for justice and accountability from the government and the music industry.

Sources also said that some youths are still protesting in Lagos around the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) area, where Mohbad attended school.

Meanwhile, the police in Lagos State have set up a 13-man special investigation team to probe the death of Mohbad. The team is expected to unravel the mystery behind his death and arrest anyone who may have played any role in it.

Mohbad was a popular singer who rose to fame with his hit songs such as “Koma Jensun”, “Ponmo Sweet” and “Sorry”.

He was signed to Marlian Records in 2020 but left the label earlier this year due to undisclosed reasons. He was working on his debut album before his death.
