What South-East Leaders Told Buhari About Nnamdi Kanu

The South-East leaders have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to release the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Igbo leaders said the release of the IPOB leader will bring peace to the region and stop the agitation of the proscribed group.

Newsflash Nigeria reports that the IPOB leader, who is being detained at the headquarters of the Department of State Service (DSS), is facing a seven-count charge of terrorism.

During a meeting with the President on Friday, the South-East leaders said the release of the IPOB leader will bring peace to the region.

The leaders made this known in a meeting with Buhari at the Executive Council Chambers, New Government House Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi state.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers in the region, the Chairman of Southeast Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Mkpuma, pleaded with the Nigerian leader to direct the release of Kanu.

Mkpuma said the leaders have started discussions with IPOB with a view to getting all of them to come to a roundtable discussion for an amicable resolution so that peace will return to the region.

On behalf of the leaders, Mkpuma commended the President for the construction of the second Niger Bridge, Akanu Bbiam Airport and many federal roads in the region.

The traditional ruler, however, asked for the President’s support for the South-East to produce the next president in 2023.
