VIDEO: Dispatch rider caught with baby inside courier box in Lagos

A video on social media showed a yet-to-be-identified rider being beaten by the angry mob after a child was found inside the courier.

Newsflash Nigeria learnt that the incident happened in Sangotedo in the early hours of Saturday, 12 March.

However, details on the development were sketchy as at press time.

In the video that surfaced on social media, the dispatch rider could be seen beaten by the angry mob who found the child inside the box.

One of the persons in the background can be heard screaming, “This is the child that was abducted. Beat him very well, this is the child that he stole.”

He was later seen sandwiched between an okada rider and a man carrying the baby and was being driven to a nearby police station.

This incident is coming barely a week after, a 22-year-old fashion designer,  Bamise, was gruesomely murdered after boarding a BRT vehicle in Lagos.

When contacted, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed that the attention of the command has been drawn to the viral video.

“The command wishes to inform the public that the incident said to have taken place in Sangotedo area, Lekki, was not reported at any police station to enable the police to take appropriate actions.

“Notwithstanding that the incident was not reported, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has directed that efforts should be intensified to locate the whereabouts of the alleged dispatch rider and the parents or guardians of the child to enable the police to investigate the incident,” he said.
