I’m always committed to the fight against corruption – Gov Ganduje

Recall that a scandalous video published showing Governor Ganduje pocketing vast wads of American dollars in what was said to be bribe payments from public works contractors went viral.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Saturday, August 15, has said that his administration is always committed to the fight against corruption as President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is. He noted that the President can’t fight corruption alone.

Ganduje said he will not be involved in the prosecution of any political office holder in the state.

The governor said the fight needs the input of state and local governments.

He spoke during an inspection of the renovation work at the state’s Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in the state capital, on Saturday.

Ganduje, who said his administration is committed to the fight against corruption, urged the commission not to compromise in the anti-graft war.

Ganduje promised not to interfere in the commission’s fight against corruption in the state.

“Whosoever falls in the Commission’s trap should face the consequence. I will have nothing to do with it. I will not interfere with any case whosoever might be involved.

“With the way corruption is fighting back and being an agenda of President Muhammad Buhari to fight against corruption, the federal government cannot fight corruption alone, it needs domestication in the states and the local governments to succeed,” he said.

Recall that a scandalous video published showing Governor Ganduje pocketing vast wads of American dollars in what was said to be bribe payments from public works contractors went viral.

In the video released by the Editor-In-Chief of Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, in 2018, the Governor was shown collecting bribes in dollars and stuffing the wads of money in his white “Agbada” also known as “babariga” cloth.

The video shows the Governor darting his eyes, perhaps towards the door every now and then to ensure nobody was coming in.

The video also shows the happy governor pack the money into a paper bag under his table.

The governor frustrated a probe by the State Assembly of the scandal as he secured a court injunction to stop the probe.

Journalist Jafaar, appeared before the lawmakers and defended the authenticity of the video.

The video sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the impeachment of the Governor.

Ganduje, who enjoys immunity from prosecution as a sitting governor, has not been probed for the scandal by any anti-graft agency.

The Kano governor won his re-election last year despite the bribery scandal.

The governor later denied the allegation, saying the videos were doctored.
