Teenage Yahoo Boy Jailed for 12 Months, Forfeits iPhone 12 and Infinix S5

A 19-year-old internet fraudster, popularly known as Yahoo Boy, Peterson Enoch, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by Justice Dairus Khobo of the Kaduna High Court on Thursday.

The convict, who resided in Millennium City Kaduna, was prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for impersonating a woman and duping an unsuspecting victim of $1,000.

The EFCC counsel, P. C. Onyeneho, told the court that Enoch was among the suspects nabbed at Malali in Kaduna on August 25 following a tip-off about their fraudulent activities. He said that one iPhone 12 and Infinix S5 phone were seized from Enoch during his arrest, and several scam documents were found in his emails after forensic analysis.

Onyeneho further revealed that Enoch had posed as Sandra James and used fake emails to swindle Kingsley Matthew of $1,000. The defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge of obtaining money by false pretence.

Justice Khobo convicted Enoch and sentenced him to 12 months in a correctional centre, with an option of paying a fine of N100,000.

He also ordered that the iPhone 12 and Infinix S5 phone be forfeited to the Federal Government and that Enoch should restitute $1,000 to his victim.
