Supreme Court Releases New Age Of Acting CJN Ariwoola

The Supreme Court has released a fresh update about the date of birth and primary school records of the newly sworn-in Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Recall that there have been controversies about CJN Ariwoola’s age with his Wikipedia page indicating his year of birth as 1958 and starting his primary school in 1959.

Nigerians have been raised the questions over the credentials of Ariwoola, particularly on the date on which he began school.

According to his Wikipedia page,  Ariwoola was born in Iseyin, Oyo State, on August 22, 1958, and began his primary education less than a year later in 1959 at the Local Authority Demonstration School, Oluwole, in his hometown. He would spend eight years in school before graduating in 1967.

However, a new document made available by the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning has swiftly addressed the record, which had raised eyebrows. The court stated categorically that Ariwoola was born in 1954 and not 1958, as reported earlier.

The Director of Information at the country’s highest court, Dr Festus Aweneri, clarified that the jurist was born in 1954 and not 1958 and that he started his primary school education in 1959. He graduated from the school in 1966.

He attended Muslim Modern School in the same town from 1967 to 1969 and then proceeded to Ansar-Ud-Deen High School Saki, Oyo State, in 1970. He completed his High School at the Ansar-Ud-Deen High School, Saki, in 1974.

He was admitted into the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife) to study Law in 1977.

He graduated from the university with a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) in 1980.

He was called to the Nigerian bar and got enrolled as a solicitor and advocate of the Nigerian Supreme Court in July 1981.

He exhibited the resume in the official record of the Supreme Court in respect of the jurist to douse the tension raised.
