Speeding Car Crashes into Building, Injures Four in Lagos

A Lexus car lost control and crashed into a shop along Liasu Road in the Idimu area of Lagos State on Sunday morning, injuring four people.

The accident occurred around 5 am when the car was speeding from the Council bus stop and swerved off the road, hitting the shop opposite a Catholic church.

The shop, which sells provisions, was destroyed by the impact of the crash, along with a building behind it where some labourers were sleeping.

The labourers, who were working on an uncompleted building on the premises, sustained various degrees of injury from the falling bricks of the fence. Some of them were also knocked unconscious by the crash.

Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the driver of the car was apprehended by residents as he tried to flee the scene.

The driver, who escaped unhurt, was the only one left in the car as two other occupants had run away. He was brought back to the scene by some residents who prevented him from being lynched or his car being set ablaze by some angry youths.

He was later taken to the hospital where he was asked to pay for the medical bills of the injured victims.

The owner of the shop and her husband also arrived at the scene and reported the incident to the police.

The police had not arrived at the scene as of the time of filing this report.
