Soludo: I’ll beg Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to persuade the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if he is not freed by the outgoing administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

Soludo, who is a former CBN governor and chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said he had repeatedly appealed to Buhari to release Kanu, who is detained at the Department of State Services (DSS).

In April, Soludo had written a letter to Buhari, urging him to release Kanu as a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation.

He hoped that his previous letters were also copied to Tinubu, who won the presidential election on May 23.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Soludo said: “The Attorney General is also copied in this letter and if President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration fails to take advantage of this opportunity to really rise above every other thing and be a statesman as it were, if the president fails to take advantage of that, we will be pursuing the same thing with the incoming administration.”

The Governor also noted that Kanu’s release would bring about sustainable peace and security in the Southeast.
