Sheikh Gumi blames Kanu, Igboho for ‘Fulani debacle’ in Southern

A Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has blamed the “Fulani debacle” in Southern Nigeria on pro-agitators, Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.

Gumi said the kidnap incidents linked to some criminal elements among Fulanis residing in the Southwest, for which Igboho banked on to issue an eviction notice, is not sufficient reason to call for Nigeria’s break up.

He spoke at a forum tagged: “Islam and the Special Role of Religious Leaders in Peacemaking in the Banditry Crisis in Northwest Nigeria” and a clip of the event was posted on his Facebook wall on Thursday.

Gumi said: “So the Fulani debacle in Southern Nigeria, is capitalised on by the secessionist movements of Kanu and Igboho as one of the causes of the agitation for separation.

“Evidentially, the crisis is another fallout of this same crisis. It’s just a small screen: how many Fulani people have kidnapped people that will warrant secession?

“How many Fulanis were massacred and killed in these states that will warrant secession?”
