PHOTOS: Ladoja, Akala, Oyo Deputy Gov, others attend Soun Ogbomoso’s burial

Two former Oyo State governors; Senator Radidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala, Deputy Governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan and other dignitaries on Sunday attended the burial of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade 111.

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that the Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade joined his ancestors on the early hours of Sunday.

The monarch who died at the age of 95, reigned for 48 years.

Our correspondent reports that the monarch has been buried according to Islamic rites inside a vault in the palace.

He was buried some minutes after 4 pm on Sunday.

The burial prayer was conducted by the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Imam Tholiat Oluwasina Ayilara.

Other dignitaries who were at the palace to mourn and attend the burial included Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, Senators Fatai Buhari and Ayo Adeseun.

Prominent personalities in the state had reacted to the death of the monarch

Former Governo Adebayo Alao-Akala described Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade 111 as a mentor who also played the role of a father to him.

Soun of Ogbomoso buried

Alao-Akala who ruled the state between 2007 and 2011 made this disclosure on Sunday.

The former Governor who holds the title of Bobagunwa of Ogbomoso is a native of Ogbomoso.

He maintained that the monarch never ruled over Ogbomoso land but led the people into global fame and recognition.

He said, “Baba, brought Ogbomosoland into the International reckoning and brought about a huge deal of development.

“His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade 111, will be sorely missed as a great man of exemplary character, a witty, never compromising King and a man who held on the noble virtues of culture and tradition till he breathed his last”.

Former Secretary to the state government, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli in his own reaction, described the monarch as a true federalist with a heart of integrity.

He maintained that the monarch contributed his own quota to the development of the country.

“He was a true federalist. He was a man of integrity. All these traits are reflected in the ways he handled issues.

“Soun could have collected the whooping N100 million dashed out to him by the state government but he rejected it. He told the government to invest it in the youths which was the Genesis of the protest.

“The monarch was a nationalist who never discriminated among the people, regardless of their social status.”
