Osun Chieftaincy Tussle: White Paper Stands Firm, says “No U-turn” on Removal of Three Monarchs

Osun State says “No U-turn” on its recent decisions concerning chieftaincy matters, slamming fake news claiming a reversal.

In a statement on Friday, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, firmly debunked rumors circulating online. These whispers hinted at the government backtracking on the crucial White Paper released Thursday, which nullified previous selections for the Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo stools.

“There is no truth in the report,” the statement asserted, calling it “the handiwork of beneficiaries of illegality perpetrated by the previous administration.”

A Recap of the Ruling:

New selection process: The White Paper ordered fresh procedures to choose the Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo, deeming the previous ones flawed.
Akinrun’s seat declared vacant: The Akinrun of Ikirun’s throne was also declared vacant, pending the outcome of a Court of Appeal case.

Osun Stands Strong:

The government reiterated its commitment to the White Paper’s decisions, emphasizing due process, rule of law, and respect for local customs and traditions.

Fake News Gets the Boot:

Osun urged the public to disregard the “factually incorrect claims” and “fake news,” affirming that no retraction or change in the White Paper is planned.

What’s Next?:

With the air cleared, Osun can move forward with the newly ordered selection processes, aiming to fill the vacant stools with rightful and worthy leaders.
