Olanipekun built and donates Ultra-Modern High Court Complex to Ekiti govt

The Chairman, Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, has built and donated the ultra-modern High Court Complex to the Ekiti State government.

The ultra-modern High Court Complex is situated at Ekiti State High Court, Ikere Judicial Division, the country home of Legal luminary.

Olanipekun who is also Asiwaju of Ikere Kingdom also called for urgent intervention on the state of courtrooms in Nigeria.

The Legal luminary appealed to different governments all over the country, as well as all men of goodwill, saying “we have to pay attention to the deteriorating state of courtrooms, court facilities and fixtures, in most parts of the country.”

According to the legal luminary: “The walls and roofs of a good number of our courtrooms are collapsing and caving in. Basic facilities such as toilets are not available in a good number of courts all over the country.

Olanipekun said the ambience of a typical or average courtroom should reflect an atmosphere of learning that judges and lawyers subscribe to, and are known for, rather than being unkempt.

“I venture to submit that a good courtroom with up-to-date facilities will attract the confidence of litigants in our judicial system.

“If we continue to fail, refuse and neglect to maintain Justice, Justice, in turn, may refuse to regulate us, and eventually desert us,” he said.

The ultra-modern High Court Complex donated to the Ekiti State government comprises state of art facilities and features, compliant with global standards. They include two standard courtrooms, each of which can sit not less than fifty counsel and accommodate a minimum of thirty litigants; four cloakrooms for males and females counsel.

The ultra-modern includes 13 toilet facilities, a 120KVA generator, a conference room, a meeting room; two pre-trial rooms, two exhibit rooms, two holding cells, a big registry and a general office, and a reception hall. The entire complex is fully air-conditioned.

The library which accommodates 8,000 volumes of law texts, law reports and works of literature is also included in the ultra-modern complex.

The two courtrooms also honouring two pioneers and potentates of the legal profession in the state; Justice Micheal Ekundayo Ogundare, the first lawyer from Ikere and also the first Attorney General of the old Ondo State, the second Ekiti indigene/ old Ondo State rise to the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the court 2 honoured Justice Olajide Olatawura from Ikole Ekiti and was the first Ekiti indigene of the old Ondo State rise to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Also, Library has been named after Aare Afe Babalola.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, while commending Chief Olanipekun for the donation said this is yet another demonstration of his commitment to giving back to the law profession where he has made his mark as a distinguished member of the Bar and the Bench.

“I, therefore, call on all Ekiti indigenes all over the world to emulate this act of generous giving back,” said Governor Oyebanji.
