OAU Student Hospitalized after Handwashing Marathon for Guinness World Record

A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Subair Enitan, was rushed to the hospital on Monday after she attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest handwashing marathon.

Enitan, who started the challenge on Friday, had set a target of 58 hours to beat the current record of 48 hours and 20 minutes held by an Indian man, Rajesh Giri.

However, her hands became severely damaged and swollen from the constant washing with soap and water, as seen in a video that went viral on social media. She was seen lying on a hospital bed with bandages on her hands.

Enitan has not yet received any official confirmation from Guinness World Records as a new record holder. She said she was inspired by Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef who recently lost her title as the longest cooking marathon record holder.

Baci, who cooked for over 100 hours in May, was dethroned by another Indian woman, Shristi Patil, who cooked for 106 hours in September. Baci’s achievement had motivated many Nigerians to try their luck at breaking various Guinness World Records.
