Nigerians react to Tinubu, Shettima, APC Governors visit Jonathan for seeking support

Nigerians have reacted to the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who visited former President Goodluck Jonathan to seek ex-president support for Tinubu’s ambition in the 2023 election.

Recall that The APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu Tuesday met with Jonathan to seek the latter’s support in the 2023 election.

Tinubu was accompanied to Jonathan’s residence in Abuja by his running mate, Kashim Shettima and some governors in the APC.

Newsflash Nigeria learnt the visit was to seek the support of the former President for Tinubu’s ambition.

Tinubu previously met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The governors include Simon Lalong of Plateau, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun; Mohammed Badaru of Jigawa.

Incidentally, some of them were Jonathan’s biggest critics when he was President.

In November 2020, some APC governors also visited Jonathan, sparking rumours of planned defection. They included Yobe State Governor and former Acting National Chairman of the APC, Mai Mala Buni; Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, who had defected to the APC from the PDP; Kebbi State governor, Atiku Bagudu, and Jigawa State governor, Abubakar Badaru.

This newspaper also reported how a cabal in the Presidency had also pushed for Jonathan to emerge as a consensus presidential candidate of the APC but the move collapsed at the last minute, with Tinubu emerging as the presidential candidate at the party’s primary election in May 2022.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have lambasted Tinubu and APC governors who visited Jonathan for seeking assistance in the 2023 elections. Some said Tinubu sponsored Jonathan’s funeral and dragged the former President down and destroyed all his legacy. See the comments below:

@Ejike Unachukwu, This was Tinubu sponsoring Jonathan’s funeral. I thought Tinubu buried Jonathan some years back.

Jonathan

@Jeremiah Osahon, Shameless Tinubu and his APC government. After many insults on Jonathan in the 2014 campaign, the Man that they say is clueless and doesn’t have the will to lead Nigeria and Nigerians is the same man he is running to today to seek his support. Nemesis will definitely catch up with these godless old generations of politicians like Tinubu in Nigeria’s political history.

@Gesture Kind Emmanuel, “Keep your enemies close, he knows the roles they played in forcing Buhari down the throats of Nigerians. As wise has he’s he will be dancing to the music they are now playing. For the disservice Tinubu and his cronies have done to this very nation, making him the president will be a taboo that needs cleansing. The man he supported back then 2015 knowing fully well he has nothing to offer…he went ahead in supporting him for his own personal reasons. Come 2023 we will remind him of his disservice to this very nation, because the damages done so far. He won’t be saying he has no knowledge of anything because they are the very ones, that forced buhari down our throats. Just look at what they have done to the nation …just in a space of 7years and some few months. We won’t forget and we will never forgive.”

@Itz Mhiztery, Power can cause a man to done with the devil, imagine people who dragged Jonathan down and destroyed all his legacy. Are the same people, seeking his help to get to the seat they forced him out of, this Jonathan has a large heart. Honestly someone like me, you won’t even enter my gate. Not with what APC and Tinubu said and did to this man in 2011-14, this guy is an extraordinary gentleman.

@Nnaemeka NWachukwu, He’s even older than Jonathan. He will be sleeping on duty like Paul Biya of Cameroon. Tinubu’s plan to take Nigeria backwards won’t work for me. Nigeria is not Lagos State

@Adejoh Oliver Solomon, the Same Jonathan he insulted in 2015. He’s not even cold to think of visiting GEJ
