Nigeria Celebrates Eil-ul-Maulid, FG Declares Wednesday Public Holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Wednesday, September 27, 2023, will be a public holiday to mark the Eil-ul-Maulid celebration, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on Monday night in Abuja on behalf of the government.

He congratulated Muslim faithful at home and abroad for witnessing this year’s occasion and urged them to emulate the virtues of love, patience, tolerance and perseverance that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) demonstrated.

The Minister also appealed to Nigerian youths to shun violence and embrace hard work and peaceful coexistence with fellow citizens regardless of their faith, ideology, social class and ethnicity.

He said that the youths should join hands with President Bola Tinubu to build a progressive and prosperous nation.

The Eil-ul-Maulid celebration is an annual event that commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), who is regarded as the final messenger of Allah and the founder of Islam. The celebration involves prayers, recitation of the Quran, lectures, processions and charity works.
