Nasarawa State Governor Loses Seat as Tribunal Rules in Favour of PDP Candidate

The governorship election in Nasarawa State, which was held in March 2023, has been annulled by the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal declared that Emmanuel Ombudagu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the poll.

The tribunal’s judgment, which was delivered via zoom on Monday, was based on the majority decision of two out of the three judges. Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, who led the panel, said that the PDP candidate proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and established that he had the highest number of valid votes.

According to Newsflash Nigeria, some prominent politicians, including former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Tanko Al-makura, were present at the court to witness the verdict.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Prof Ishaya Tanko, the INEC returning officer, announced that the APC candidate garnered 347,209 votes, while his closest rival, David Ombugadu of the PDP, got 283,016 votes.
