Lawan, Machina may lose out as APC has no candidate for Yobe North senatorial seat – INEC

Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Hon Bashir Machina may have lost out for the Yobe North senatorial seat in 2023.

A credible source at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Damaturu said the commission did not publish any candidate for APC.

“What we have is Mohammed Bomoi for Yobe South and Ibrahim Geidam for Yobe East. There is no name for the Yobe North for the APC,” the source said.

The Head of Voter Education and Publicity at the Damaturu office of INEC, Mrs Rifkatu Duku, confirmed the ruling party has no candidate for the seat.

” No credentials of APC candidates for Zone C have been submitted to the office from the headquarters. We have received the credentials of candidates for the National Assembly and presidential election.

“But we did not get that of Zone C, i.e; Yobe north for APC. We got that of Yobe south and Yobe seat which is the Ibrahim Bomoi and former Governor Gaidam,” Mrs Duku said.

The APC has submitted Lawan’s name as a candidate for the party.

But Machina, who won the primary supervised by INEC, has insisted he is the authentic candidate for the election, vowing to stop at nothing to get his mandate.

According to a certified true copy of INEC’s report from May 28, 2022, Machina won the election with 289 votes out of 300 delegates.

The Commission did not mention Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President who has been jostling to return to the Senate on the APC ticket.

Lawan had been allegedly listed as the candidate of the APC for the Yobe North senatorial election slated for February 2023, with reports that a primary had been held clandestinely to produce Lawan as a candidate.
