Kidnappers caught while trying to pick up N1m ransom from victim’s family

Ogun State Police Command has reportedly arrested two kidnappers while trying to pick up ransom from families of their victims.

The kidnappers were arrested on Sunday, October 3, at Agbara Area, Ota in Ogun State.

In a statement released to newsmen on Monday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested on October 3.

He said two suspects identified as Mohammed Abubakar, 42, and Clinton Niche, 18, were arrested while trying to collect ransom at the Agbara area of the state.

Oyeyemi said two suspects were apprehended following a report lodged at Agbara Area command by one Stephen Ajibili, who claimed that his seven-year-old son, Daniel Ajibili, had been kidnapped.

He added that his son was abducted by unknown persons while he was sent on an errand by his mother at about 11.20 a.m on a fateful day.

“He stated further that the abductors had called him and demanded the sum of one million Naira if he wants his son released,” Oyeyemi told newsmen.

Having got the report, the Acting Area Commander in Agbara, CSP Kayode Shedrack, was said to have quickly mobilized detectives, who Oyeyemi said embarked on a technical and intelligence-based investigation to unravel those behind the abduction.

“The efforts of the detectives paid off when the suspects who had directed the victim’s parents to drop the ransom money somewhere were ambushed and apprehended by the police detectives,” it was said.

He added that the arrested suspects subsequently led the policemen into the bush where the victim was tied to a tree.

“On interrogation, the suspects informed the police that they were three in number, but the remaining member of their gang was the person watching over their victim while they came out to collect the ransom.

“Having discovered that his two accomplices have been arrested, he took to flight immediately,” the PPRO reported.

Meanwhile, the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, had directed that the arrested suspects be taken to the anti-kidnapping section of the State CIID for discreet investigation.

He also directed that the fleeing member of the gang is hunted for and brought to justice within the shortest possible period.
