Kidnappers abduct two pupils of nursery classes in Ondo

Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted two girls of nursery and kindergarten classes from their mother’s car in Akure, Ondo State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday at Leo area of Akure metropolis, the Ondo State capital.

According to the report, the victims’ mother was driving into their compound in their ash coloured Toyota Camry, popularly known as the ‘muscle’ at Leo area while the gunmen were snatched the pupils from her.

It was learnt that the victim’s mother return from an outing at about 8 p.m., she parked the car in front of her house and went out to open the gates leaving the two kids in the vehicle.

The incident was said to have been reported to the police.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the State, DSP Funmi Odunlami, disclosed that the mother of the kids reported the case at the police station shortly after it happened.

She said upon their return from an outing at about 8 p.m., the mother parked the car in front of her house and went out to open the gates leaving the two kids in the vehicle.

“Another car with three occupants suddenly drove up to her; some of the occupants collected her car keys and drove her car away with the kids inside.

“The anti-kidnapping section of the police is already on the trail of the assailants to rescue the two kids and recover the car,’’ DSP Odunlami said.

The PPRO said she was not sure if the kidnappers had contacted the family.

In a similar event, gunmen have launched an attack against the Abolongo correctional facility located in Oyo township, Oyo State.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that attackers stormed the facility around 10 pm on Friday night bearing weapons and deployed grenades to gain access.

According to multiple sources and reports, all the prisoners in the facility were set free even as the warders keeping watch on the inmates scampered for safety when the gunmen attacked.

It was further gathered that after the attack, security agents have been mobilized to secure the area and track down the attackers.

The attack on the facility has been confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Olanrewaju Anjorin on Saturday.

While confirming the attack, he added that some of the escaping prisoners have been re-arrested by security officials deployed after the Friday night attack.

Anjorin who spoke to The Nation on phone added that officials were on their way to the attacked facility to assess the level of damage.

He said: “Yes. It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened.

“And right now, the comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation.

“But, I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened”.
