Judge orders Yahoo Boy to sweep court premises for 6 months

A High Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has ordered Adewale Tosin, who was convicted of internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Boy, to sweep the court premises for six months.

Bayo Taiwo, the presiding judge, sentenced Tosin after he pleaded guilty to defrauding Lylian Zamarippa, an American man, of the sum of $2,400 while pretending to be a female with the name Zielone Nyson.

The judge ordered that the community service would be observed by the convict from 8 am to 12 pm every working day.

“The convict will serve two years imprisonment if he fails to show up for the community service or arrives late on any of the days, even if it occurred on the last day of the service,” the judge said.

“The convict must refund the $2,400 to the victim and forfeit his SUV, laptop and iPhone to the federal government.”

Earlier, Festus Ojo, the prosecuting counsel, informed the court that the convict committed the offence between February 2020 and January 2021.

Ojo added that the convict entered a plea bargain with the commission and urged the court to enter it as the judgment of the court.

Earlier, M.A. Rufai, the defence counsel, had pleaded with the court to convert the sentence to non-custodian or an option of fine.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the judge ordered Tunde Adejuwon, another convicted internet fraudster (Yahoo Boy), to sweep the court premises for five months and forfeit his Lexus car and iPhone to the federal government.
