How Ogun Robber Named Police Inspector As Gun Supplier

The Ogun Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old suspected armed robber, Akeem Owonikoko, along Sagamu – Ijebu Ode – Benin Highway. The police also recovered guns, drugs, vehicles, and other items from the suspect.

According to the Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, the suspect was arrested after a 24-hour operation led by the Area Commander, Ijebu Ode, ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi. She said the suspect was sighted in a Toyota Camry driving toward Ijebu Ode from Ososa and tried to escape when he saw the police.

The suspect, who wore a Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) uniform and was the mastermind of several crimes, was eventually apprehended. A search of his vehicle revealed a black cellophane bag containing 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges, and a locally fabricated short gun.

The police also executed a search warrant at his residence where they found another magnum pump action rifle, one double barrel short gun, one locally fabricated double barrel pistol , stunt pistol chocker, an unregistered silver colour Toyota Camry and green colour Toyota Sienna Bus marked KNN 58 TD Ogun.

Other items recovered from his residence include a liquid chemical, a black beret with insignia of Aiye Confraternity, cannabis, hard drugs, ATM card, power bank, two Apple wrist watches, two cell phones and poisonous charm.

The Police Spokesman said the suspect confessed that an Inspector of Police, simply identified as Ola supplied guns which the gang used to operate. She said the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had ordered the police to go after the remaining suspects and the rogue inspector.

She reiterated that Ijebu-Ode Area Command had continued to raise the bar in crime fighting and that the commissioner of police remained committed to rid the state of criminals.
