How Did a Two-Year-Old Boy Fall from a Three-Storey School Building

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy named David Etim Jacob lost his life after falling from the third floor of his school building in Aba, Abia State. His parents are still in shock and demand answers from the school authorities.

David was a pupil of Emerald International School on Crystal Park Road. His father, Jacob Etim Udo, who works as an Okada rider, said he dropped off his two children at the school in the morning. But when he returned to pick them up in the afternoon, he was told that David had died.

Udo, who is from Akwa Ibom State, claimed that the school management had not contacted him or his wife, Onyekachi Udo, to explain what happened to their son. He said he only received a phone call from an unknown person informing him of David’s death.

He said he rushed to the school and saw blood on the ground where David had fallen. He also said he took his son’s body to John Okorie Memorial Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was dead.

Onyekachi Udo told BBC Igbo that her daughter, who also attends the same school, was the one who told her that David had fallen from the roof. She said she was devastated by the loss of her son and blamed the teachers for not taking care of him.

The principal of Emerald International School, Peter Nwoke, denied that the parents’ account was accurate. He said he was not present when the incident occurred and refused to give his own version of events. He said he would only talk to the parents face to face.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed that they had received a complaint from David’s parents and launched an investigation into his death.

The police spokesperson, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, said that David’s body had been taken for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. She also said that David’s case had been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
