Ekiti LG Poll: APC fails to conduct primary, pick candidates; fears SWAGA

Ahead of the December 4 Local Government Election in Ekiti State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, October 2, has failed to conduct the primary election of the chairmanship position across the state.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that the chairmanship primary election is to hold today across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 19 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state through indirect primary election but failed to conduct the election.

According to the report, the delegates and the aspirants were waiting at the venue of the primary election in 16 LGAs and 19 LCDAs, but the party officials and the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) officials were absent.

However, the aspirants have lamented over the development of choosing consensus candidates to represent the party at the forthcoming election without notifying every other aspirants within the party.

According to the report, the party said it citing an unfavourable security report, decided to adopt candidates in all the 16 LGAs and 19 LCDAs in the state.

One of the chairmanship aspirants named Abimbola Olawumi Olajumoke-Adeniyi narrated on her Facebook Page, said everyone was waiting for the Primary election, but her Party, citing unfavourable security report, decided to adopt candidates in all the LGAs and LCDAs in the State.

She said that other aspirants who were not picked as candidates in their local government areas should submit their receipt for a refund and await appointments.

She wrote:

“Everyone was waiting for the Primary election, but my Party, citing unfavorable security report, decided to adopt candidates in all the LGAs and LCDAs in the State.

“All other aspirants should submit their receipt for refund and await appointments. My Party promises nobody is losing out and we should all work for the success of the Party in the election.

“My Ward Chairman, called that I should submit my receipt, I told him, I’m still consulting the gods on the next line of action 😛😛😛 as I’m not in a hurry to get a refund.

“We spent millions on Fayemi’s 2018 election, we are still alive, how much did we pay for the form that I will be scrambling to get back?

“So unfortunate, that unproductive leaders and a man sacked twice, from #Aviation for gross misappropriation of funds, adopted an addicted kleiptomanic, to run my LCDA 😭😭

“I was on the field for three consecutive days, Wale Alade, couldn’t even visit the Excos of those Communities because at one point or the other, they have worked with him, during elections and he has cheated them; stealing money meant for a group or the people.

“They were too scared to face the Primary election, they chickened out, giving excuses.

“Shocking stories emanating from the people, today no be tory day, make I go rest o!

“I still dey come o”, she said.

Recall that there are two factions in the party in the state; Southwest Agenda for 2023 (SWAGA) loyal to the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Tokantokan loyal to governor Kayode Fayemi.

It was also learnt that some SWAGA members obtained the chairmanship forms whereas the Tokantokan group feared being defeated at the primary.
