Ekiti 2022: Resign from my govt now – Fayemi gives deadline to governorship aspirants

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has given anyone serving in his government deadline who would like to contest the governorship primaries to tender his or her resignation.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the timetable for conducting the Ekiti governorship poll.

According to the INEC timetable, the conduct of the party primaries in Ekiti is between January 4 to January 29, 2022, and the ground is being tilled for the coming governorship election in Ekiti State billed for June 18, 2022.

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) had slated their governorship primary to January 22 while the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fixed their primary to January 28.

Barely 52 days to the governorship primary of the APC, Fayemi directed anyone serving in his government who would like to contest the governorship primaries to tender his or her resignation latest by December 18th.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said the governor to comply with directives of the INEC.

The development, according to the statement, became imperative in order to ensure cohesion and excellent service delivery – two major hallmarks of the administration- remain uncompromised.

In compliance with directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has slated the governorship primaries for January, ahead of the June 2022 governorship election.

According to findings by Newsflash Nigeria, those said to be eyeing the coveted seat from the Fayemi’s government are the Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji; Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye; the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Wale Fapohunda; the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Bamidele Faparusi.

Though, only Faparusi has publicly declared his intention to contest for the party’s ticket.
