EFCC arrests 60 Yahoo Boys’ in popular Hotel

Operatives of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 60 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys during an awards ceremony at the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

A spokesperson for EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Uwujaren, who said that the suspects were arrested at an event, tagged: “Peer Youths Awards”, added that investigation later revealed that the event was organised to reward high-level internet fraudsters.

He listed the items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest to include: exotic cars, electronic devices, laptop computers and mobile phones.

According to the EFCC spokesman, the suspects will soon be charged to court.

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that the EFCC on Saturday night invaded the Conference Hotels in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital owned by former Governor, Gbenga Daniel.

Daniel who was governor of the state from 2003-2011, has for years owned Conference Hotel in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that the EFCC agents stripped, robbed and shot repeatedly to traumatise guests at the Hotels, part of a luxury accommodation chain run by Gbenga Daniel, witnesses said.

The officers reportedly arrived just before midnight on Saturday and operated well into the early hours of Sunday morning, witnesses said.

They forcibly broke into guest rooms unannounced and stripped them of any dignity, in a description that matches the agency’s recent descent into conduct bereft civil liberties considerations.
