Chef Dammy Cooks for 120 Hours, Shatters Hilda Baci’s Record

Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, has made history by cooking non-stop for 120 hours, smashing the previous record of 93 hours 11 minutes set by Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly called Hilda Baci.

Chef Dammy, who is based in Ekiti state, Nigeria, started her epic cook-a-thon on Friday, June 9th 2023, under the auspices of Spirit Global Mission. She completed her remarkable feat on Tuesday, June 13th 2023, amid cheers and applause from her supporters and well-wishers.

She shared the news of her achievement on her Instagram page, where she also thanked everyone who helped her along the way.

She wrote: “We did it! We broke the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. I couldn’t have done this without God and you all. Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, donations and love. You are all amazing!”

Chef Dammy will become the new world record holder if confirmed by the Guinness World Records (GWR), which is yet to officially validate her attempt. However, she has already surpassed the current record holder Hilda Baci, who embarked on a cook-a-thon for about 100 hours in May 2023.

Hilda Baci’s attempt was recently verified by GWR after a thorough review of all the evidence. She had aimed to cook for 100 hours, but almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt. GWR announced her achievement on its website and Twitter account on June 12th 2023.

Chef Dammy’s cook-a-thon has generated a lot of buzz and controversy on social media, as some people have criticised her for trying to break Hilda’s record so soon after it was set. Some have also accused her of cheating by turning off the gas, sleeping and doing other things that should disqualify her from the record.

However, she has also received some support and praise from notable personalities and celebrities, such as the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, who sent her words of encouragement on social media. Even Hilda Baci wished her good luck and congratulated her on her success.

Chef Dammy has also attracted some rewards and recognition for her incredible feat. A Nigerian doctor based in the US, Dr. Ayo Arojo, gifted her N500,000 and a two-week cooking tour of the US. He also urged people to continue to support her. He wrote on his Facebook page: “Chef Dammy will be invited for a two-week cook tour in the United States. I can’t wait for her to start the process! Let us continue to support her.”

She has also put Nigeria on the global map with her culinary skills and creativity.
