BREAKING: Osinbajo, Tinubu, Fayemi, Amosun visit Owo amid APC Presidential Primaries

About four presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, stormed Owo in Ondo State to commiserate with victims of the St Francis Catholic Church gunmen attacks.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that scores of worshippers, including children, died on Sunday when some gunmen invaded St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

Some worshippers also sustained various degrees of injuries and have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for treatment.

It was learnt that the incident happened in the church, which is less than 200 meters away from the Palace of Olowo of Owo.

The four presidential aspirants who stormed Owo on Monday morning include the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi and former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The APC presidential aspirants commiserated with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the families of the victims of the attack and indeed the people of Owo and Ondo State.

They urged the police and security agencies to do all that is within their power to investigate the attack and apprehend the wicked perpetrators and bring them to justice.

They left delegates, chieftains and other members of the APC that had arrived in Abuja for the party’s presidential primary, for Ondo State.

Newsflash Nigeria understands that Fayemi and Amosun met with the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, the traditional ruler of the town, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, and others, to sympathise with them over the development.

When Tinubu visited the place, he donated N50 million to aid the treatment of the victims.

The Asiwaju of Lagos also donated N25 million to the Catholic Church where the incident happened.

Osinbajo is expected to meet with the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, traditional rulers particularly the Olowo of the Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, and others, to sympathise with them over the development.

Osinbajo also assisted some victims who got an accident on Monday morning along Abuja Airport road on heading to Owo, Ondo State.

Laolu Akande, the spokesman of the vice-president disclosed this to newsmen.

”On his way to the airport this morning, VP came across a road traffic accident, stopped to lend assistance & ensured the victim was taken to the hospital with VP’s convoy ambulance. He then proceeded on his trip and is now in Ondo State heading to the site of yesterday’s attack in Owo,” he said.

”VP’s security and medical teams assisted in removing the victim from the crushed vehicle resulting from a somersault. And transported the patient to the Airforce base hospital. It was a solo accident. The car had somersaulted on the opposite lane and was impaled on a tree.”

The vice-president was heading for Owo, Ondo state, on a condolence visit when he saw the scene of the accident and intervened.

The spokesperson to the vice-president said Osinbajo will deliver the president’s condolence message in Owo.

“The VP heads out to Owo, (Ondo State this morning) where worshippers were heinously attacked yesterday resulting in many casualties. He will deliver the president’s condolences and message in person,” Akande said.
