BREAKING: Ekiti SSG, Oyebanji resigns from Fayemi cabinet
Ahead of the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State, Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, has resigned from the Kayode Fayemi cabinet.
The resignation which was conveyed in a letter to the Governor, dated December 3, 2021, takes effect from Tuesday, December 7th.
Oyebanji cited his decision to resign, said he has the intention to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the State for his resignation as Secretary to the State Government.
Recall that Oyebanji had declared his intention to contest the governorship election, slated for June 18, 2022.
Oyebanji, popularly known as BAO declared on Sunday, December 5, at AB hall, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi accepted the resignation letter.
The governor thanked the former SSG for his remarkable contribution to the administration since its inception in 2018 and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ekiti State, Yinka Oyebode disclosed this on Friday in a statement titled ‘Ekiti SSG Oyebanji Resigns From Cabinet.’
The statement read, “Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has accepted the resignation of Secretary to the State Government, Hon Biodun Oyebanji, from his cabinet.
“The resignation which was conveyed in a letter to the Governor, dated December 3, 2021, takes effect from Tuesday, December 7th.
“Oyebanji had cited his decision to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the State for his resignation as Secretary to the State Government.
“Governor Fayemi in accepting Oyebanji’s resignation thanked the former SSG for his remarkable contribution to the administration since inception in 2018 and wished him well in his future endeavours.”
Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that Fayemi had given anyone serving in his government deadline who would like to contest the governorship primaries to tender his or her resignation.

Fayemi directed anyone serving in his government who would like to contest the governorship primaries to tender his or her resignation latest by December 18th.
The development, according to the Fayemi statement, became imperative in order to ensure cohesion and excellent service delivery – two major hallmarks of the administration- remain uncompromised.
In compliance with directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has slated the governorship primaries for January, ahead of the June 2022 governorship election.
