BREAKING: AEDC workers, CBN reach truce over N41bn debt

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has suspended its ongoing strike following the intervention of major stakeholders.

Godfrey Abah, NUEE FCT Chairman confirmed the development to Peoples Gazette Monday evening.

He said the strike was suspended after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) promised to make all outstanding payments within the next 21 days.

NUEE had on Monday morning, December 6, embarked on industrial action, shutting down operations of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) following the accruement of N41 billion debt owed workers by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The strike led to power outages in Abuja and neighbouring states such as Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states, covered by the distribution company.

However, NUEE and the government reached a compromise after a meeting comprising all affected parties. The meeting was held on Monday evening, Mr Abah said.
