Boko Haram Ambush Kills Policeman in Governor’s Convoy

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has lost one of his security escorts to a Boko Haram attack on Saturday.

The incident occurred along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, where the governor’s convoy was returning from the University of Maiduguri Convocation ceremony.

The deceased policeman, Corporal Maina Mohammed, was part of the ‘Operation Haba Maza’ security outfit that was assigned to protect the governor. He was killed by the insurgents who laid an ambush near Benishiek in Borno State.

Governor Buni expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the late policeman.

He described the death as tragic, sad and unfortunate. He also prayed for the soul of the fallen hero and the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the attack.

The governor ordered the Specialist Hospital Damaturu to provide full medical services to the wounded security personnel. He also instructed the secretary to the state government to propose a support measure for the family of the slain policeman.

The attack on the governor’s convoy is the latest in a series of violent incidents perpetrated by Boko Haram in the region. The terrorist group has been waging a decade-long insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people.
