ASUU is a very useless union, calls FG to scrap it – El-Rufai’s Son

Bashir, one of the sons of Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday, has called on the Federal government to scrap the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, following the prolonged strike by members of the union.

El-Rufai’s son described the ASUU as a ‘useless union’ that should be dissolved and replaced with educators who care about students.

This comes after ASUU decided to extend its ongoing strike.

Bashir made the statement on Twitter, saying:

“ASUU is a very useless union. They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country.”

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported on Monday that ASUU had extended the ongoing strike.

The action of the nation’s public university lecturers’ union, came after its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Abuja.

The meeting which began late Sunday at the University of Abuja’s headquarters of ASUU, ended early Monday morning with the resolution that the strike is rolled over.

A lecturer with the University of Calabar, UNICAL, who disclosed this to our correspondent, said: “ASUU has extended the strike again. This government has refused to pay us, so we can’t go back to classes.

“I currently have over one thousand scripts in my house, both marked and unmarked, I can’t attend to them because this government is owing me six months.”

ASUU has been on strike since February 2022 over a disagreement in past agreements reached with the government.
